Miss Amazing Pageant & Special Olympics World Games

Miss Amazing Inc. launched a crowdfunding campaign last Tuesday to fund a global celebration of girls and women with disabilities, taking place in conjunction with the Special Olympics World Games July 24-28, 2015 in Los Angeles, California.
The 2015 National Miss Amazing Pageant is the third annual national event coordinated by Miss Amazing Inc., a nationwide non-profit organization whose mission is to provide opportunities for girls and women with disabilities to build confidence and self-esteem in a supportive environment.
“I was inspired by the Special Olympics to hold the first Miss Amazing Pageant when I was thirteen years old,” says Jordan Somer, Executive Director of Miss Amazing, “It’s very exciting to see the program come full circle with this union with the Special Olympics”.
Complete with four live-streamed shows, a gala, a dance party, a PJ party, and a community service project at the World Games, every aspect of the National Miss Amazing Pageant provides an opportunity for its participants to celebrate their strengths and ambitions with a supportive audience.
“I’m so excited for the national event”, says Janira Obregon, an 18-year-old who was named New York’s Miss Amazing Teen in March. Since being crowned, she has advocated for education through the Malala Fund and hopes to reach a larger audience at the 2015 National Miss Amazing Pageant.
Obregon is just one of 100 girls and women with disabilities from across the country who are looking forward to this valuable experience to enjoy loved ones, meet new friends, set new goals, and further social and communication skills.

While the pageant participants experience personal growth, Somer insists that the audience grows just as much.
“Girls and women with disabilities belong to two of the country’s largest minority groups, so they take on stereotypes associated with both womanhood and disability on a dailybasis. Our goal is to dispel those stereotypes and for the audience and volunteers to see how the participants are completely capable of contributing to society in valuable ways.”
With plans underway for their largest celebration of abilities to date, Miss Amazing is poised to make a huge impact on people from across the world. You can help bring this amazing event to life by going to missamazing2015.com/donate and contributing to their Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign.
