Miss Iowa Princess, Izabella, helps out in a BIG way!

Miss Iowa Princess, Izabella Arndt donated her school supplies to a great cause! Check out the story here:

The Free Clinics of Iowa htttp://freeclinicsofiowa.org is the largest network of free medical clinics in the state of Iowa, Free Clinics of Iowa is a donor-supported, not-for-profit organization, consisting of an administrative office and over 30 member free clinics. In rural and urban settings, Free Clinics of Iowa member clinics provide basic healthcare services through volunteer physicians, nurses and other health professionals at no cost to patients.
Their mission statement is:
"We believe every person deserves access to basic healthcare services, Free Clinics of Iowa facilitates the initiation, operation and collaboration of free clinics in the State of Iowa."
They  do an school immunization drive every year the first week of August. This is designed to get the kids that can't afford immunizations--their shots--and thereby enabling them to get into school. They also raise the funds to give each child coming through that day for shots, a school backpack and as many school supplies as they need.

A perfect fit for National American Miss Books and School Supplies. Izabella, with the help of her mom, set up a table with all the books and school supplies. After the kids got their shots--some with tears (of course) came to our table to pick our a book -- TO TAKE HOME WITH THEM FOREVER!

Many of the kids that came through, use the library, but owning a book is a new concept. A couple of the kids weren't sure it was real--and we had a hard time telling them, it's true--pick a book and take it with you--it's yours. Some were so excited they had it picked out before the shots were done. Some took a long time to decide--such a big decision.

And the parents LOVED the school supplies--one mother had three kids (K, 1st and 6th) to buy supplies for--we found the school supply list online for them--and Izabella helped them pick out one, by one, the supplies they needed. They got everything they needed from our supplies except one item. I could see the relief on that mom's face when she left that day! It was so heartwarming.

Izabella read to the little ones, she helped them pick out the perfect book, shared her favorite books with them. And in one case, had to work very hard to get one little boy to take a book. Eventually he did--and she was so pleased. Hard for her to understand why some one wouldn't want a book. But a lesson she learned well that day--not all kids have a library of books like her.

In the end--Izabella distributed all the books, and school supplies and had it was a wonderful experience for her.

We invited Abi Goeser to join us--she brought some of her school supplies to add to ours and worked all morning at the event with Izabella.

Miss Wisconsin Pre Teen, Olivia Lulich's Farewell

I was just 5 years old the first time I crossed the National American Miss stage. Extremely shy, I didn’t come home with a crown that year. But I learned that I wanted to improve and try again. Each year I have come back to National American Miss with the same goal – to grow as a person, meet new friends and take pride in what I do.

The excitement I felt to hear my name called last August was indescribable. To be selected as the 2013 Miss Wisconsin Pre-Teen was truly a dream come true!

This title offered me the opportunity to expand my community service program, Dream Makers, by helping teachers in my community get the things they need to be more successful in their classrooms.

In November my entire family was off to California for an amazing week at nationals. I can proudly say that hard work does pay off, as I placed 2nd runner up in Casualwear modeling and was a top 10 finalist. The girls I met that week were incredible and many I consider to be life-long friends!

It was an honor to meet so many other Wisconsin queens this past year: Miss Wisconsin, Miss Wisconsin USA, Alice in Dairyland, Wisconsin Fairest of the Fairs and lots of local title holders. Each of these ladies is making a difference in today’s world and I feel honored to say I know them!

My National American Miss sister queens here in Wisconsin are astonishing: Haelley, Addie, Brittany, Autumn and Alyssa. I have enjoyed the times and appearances we have made together. Each of you are inspirational and I know will be successful in all you do.

Special thanks the Maples team for making this pageant truly feel like a NAMILY! And congratulations to Breanne and Ryan on their upcoming marriage!

To my family members and friends who have always supported me. My little brother Ethan, you complain about having to sit through pageants, but you always want me to win and cheer for me every step of the way. My parents – I know that pageantry can be a sacrifice – thank you for seeing through the material side of things and recognizing all the benefits I have gained along the way.
I hope that each contestant walks away from this pageant with a greater sense of who they are and who they want to be. I know that National American Miss has definitely impacted my life in countless positive ways. Crown or no crown - the prize is the experience!

I once heard the quote – “Don’t cry because it is over – smile because it happened.” I will forever smile fondly on my memories at National American Miss. Bidding sweet farewell as your 2013 Miss Wisconsin Pre-Teen – I am, Olivia Lulich.

Arizona Cover Girl donates her books and school supplies

For several years, the people from Real Life Christian Fellowship’s Beyond the 49 project have partnered with Los Ninos Elementary School to provide backpacks and school supplies to the children of Los Ninos. In 2013, they were able to distribute a backpack full of school supplies to every student. At Real Life they believe that their purpose goes beyond the walls of their church and into the community in which the church stands.  On Friday, August 1, 2014, the generous group donated thousands of dollars of school supplies in support of the teachers of Los Ninos.

One individual who enjoys this outreach every year is the newly crowned National American Miss 2014 Arizona Junior Preteen Cover Girl, Miss Dani Mixer. Dani helped organize the donated school supplies into bins for each of the school's teachers. Part of being a NAM girl is getting out and making a difference in your local community. Dani is passionate about making her community a better place to live!
