Its Miss America Time - and as expected, NAM girls are holding their own!
Soooo....if you are NOT familiar with how the Miss America system works - let me give you a brief Miss America 101.
First, you must win your local pre-lim, this meaning that there are city/county pageants held throughout each state. Winners of each local prelim then advance to the state competition. Now, with most pageant systems - once you win - you cant compete for that title again. However, with the Miss America system, you can compete for your local pre-lim title as many times as you want, well until you either age out or you win the state title. However, once you win your state title - thats it, you cant compete anymore - you are officially Miss Alabama of Miss Wyoming, etc - and thats when you go on to compete for MISS AMERICA!!!!
So to sum it all up: local, state, national.
The competitions and judging criteria are fierce . Contestants must demonstrate elegance in formal wear, have the most up-to-date knowledge and opinions of current affairs for the interview competition, stake a claim on a platform or topic that is meaningful to her, donate numerous hours of community service on this platform and be prepared to share her views and opinions on it. And while doing all this - she must maintain the upmost healthy lifestyle, demonstrating it via the swimsuit competition and topping it all of - she must be talented in some degree( singing, dancing, music, etc). In other words, she is the ideal, well-rounded American woman!
It often takes girls YEARS of competing in the America system to get to the final Miss America stage, the level of competition is beyond compare!!! To even win you prelim title is TOUGH! However, it is never any surprise when I see soo many NAM girls doing well in the Miss America System - lets not forget - Miss AMERICA is pretty much the superbowl of pageantry - and its what most serious pageant competitors dream of becoming. Well, all the local prelim competitions are done and those winners are advancing on this summer to compete for their state competitions....hoping that they get to the superbowl!!
Lets see which NAM girls we can be rooting for...some of them you may recognize, hoping they take home their State Title. I think its safe to say, from coast to coast, that NAM girls are holding their own ...take a look:
