Miss MO Pre-Teen Serves as Volunteer for Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation
Miss Missouri Pre-Teen Abbie Mueller joined
volunteers in the fight against Type 1 Juvenile Diabetes before heading to the National Pageant in November. She greeted participants in the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation’s Walk To
End Type One in St. Louis, Missouri. Abbie met walkers of all
ages, especially T1D patients who wore blue bandanas, by welcoming them to the
event and encouraging them to stay after the walk for the post-event
party.
She also greeted walkers at the finish line with celebration bells
and directed them to the party. Event coordinators advised that the
volunteer efforts helped to direct over 20,000 participants to the party, a
significant increase from last year’s attendance. One of Abbie’s friends
and walk participant Ashley (who also happens to be a former NAM competitor) is
a T1 diabetic who wears a continuous blood glucose monitor, so Abbie has
learned much about the daily efforts that go into the management of T1D. Enjoy these photos of Abbie in action at the event!
