Ok - if you don't know what Im talking about by now, then you have clearly been living under a rock! For a recap, click HERE! But, Jordan Somer, the NAM Nebraska Teen(photographed left walking the orange carpet at the TeenNick Halo Awards) has not only defined what it means to be a "queen," but she has sat the bar in terms of philanthropic work for any pageant title-holder. #3 NAM FAM continues to grow...

It's no secret that National American Miss puts emphasis on family values. Our pageants take place in a family environment and as a company, we are even family run (me, my parents, my sister -in - law, my aunt, my cousin, etc). And then there are those that are not "blood relatives," but pose as something special in our lives and that we consider family - they are our NAM FAM. Since it's the Holiday Season, I thought it was important that #3 on the Top 10 showcased our NAM FAM....afterall, it's something that continues to set NAM a part from the rest. When a girl gets crowned, the first thing I say to her is not congratulations, but it's with a hug and smile that I say, "welcome to the family."

teammaples
So, to all of you who joined the NAMFAM in 2010, whether it was as a staff member, a new queen, or cover girl , we have loved making you an addition to our growing NAMFAM! Congrats 2010 Queens & Cover Girls!

....and on a personal note, I can't wait for the new additions among the staff member of our NAMFAM (babies and marriages) taking place in 2011!!!

#7 NAM leads the pack as "nation's largest pageant system"

Check out this clip from the Spring 2010 issue of Pageantry Magazine regarding NAM:
pageantry, Pageantry magazine, National American Miss, Is National American Miss a scam?, Miss 2010, beauty pageants, miss teen, Steve Mayes, Kathleen Mayes, Lani Maples, Breanne Maples,
"The National American Miss events are not only large in terms of the amount of trophies, titles and awards given, but also in their popularity and overall attendance. The question comes up each year; why do so many contestants choose NAM? National American Miss has now grown to be the nation’s largest pageant system. It could be the emphasis on age-appropriate events that feature life skill building activities and a
newfound growth in confidence for each contestant.Or perhaps it is the high-energy stage production, featuring concert-level sound and lighting systems. Or, central to a quality pageant event, it might be NAM’s transparent score process, and comprehensive score reporting system, which are a favorite of
contestants and families alike. Maybe it is the service oriented staff and large diverse panels of skilled judges at each event. Of course, the answer to NAM’s popularity lies in the convergence of all of these qualities, setting a soaring standard of success and service."

NAM and Better Business Bureau - ways to stay away from SCAMS!

Just wanted to give you all a little friendly tip for today!

I know scams are everywhere these days and you HAVE to watch your back (and pocketbooks) of who you and your family do business and associate yourselves with!

So - anytime you involve yourself in any type of pageant or similar activity (modeling agency, dance school, acting class, etc), be sure to look up the company with the Better Business Bureau FIRST!

Sure - you can find out lots of stuff by googling, but the Better Business Bureau is a TRUE test of a company's reputation. Most organizations and companies are not even affiliated with the BBB and those companies that have no affiliation or have poor ratings are those that you should stay away from!

National American Miss is a great example of this. As Accredited members of the Better Business Bureau ( we have an A+ rating), constants and their families can rest assured that they are involving themselves with a dependable program!

Hope this helps with your family activity planning!

TEEN NICK HALO AWARDS - premiere party recap & MORE - be sure to watch TONIGHT!

Just got back home from the Nickelodeon Halo Awards Premiere party in NYC with the 2010 NAM Nebraska Teen, Jordan Somer, who is 1 of 4 teens being honored by Nickelodeon with the Halo Award, for her Helping And Leading Others (a.k.a - HALO).

Jordan created the Miss Amazing pageant a few years ago for her National Community Involvement project when she was the NAM Nebraska Jr. Teen. Since then the Miss Amazing Pageant has given girls with mental and physical disabilities the confidence and life skills that National American Miss has given Jordan.

Anyways, I wanted to quickly share with you a bit about the trip, information about tonight's episode, as well, as an interesting tidbid.

First, I have to say what an honor it was to be a part of this experience with and for Jordan. Each of the 4 honorees brought guests to the premiere and to NYC that supported and helped them in their cause/work. It was very humbling to be amongst these heros and leaders and to represent NAM and pageantry in such a profound way.

Second, there was a giant video screen on Times Square that showed clips of Jordan and the 4 other Halo honorees every 20 seconds, advertising for the show!!!

However, getting a 5-star treatment from Nickelodeon and spending time becoming acquainted with the 4 honorees and their guests was awesome. Each of these teens is fascinating and I was so proud that JORDAN, a NAM girl was amongst them, and that pageantry was being put in a positive light in the media. However, out of everyone that I met, Herold(the honoree from Haiti, whom you will meet during tonight's episode) and I became fast friends and I wanted to share a little story with you about Herold before you watch tonight.

Herold moved from Haiti 5 years ago – his WHOLE family is still there. He is 18, full of life, talks non-stop, bounces all over the place, and is about 7 feet tall. Easy to see why we became fast friends, huh? Being that it was the premiere party, the honorees and their guests(along with 125 other strangers, TV Execs, producers, corporate sponsors, and Nickelodeon starlets) saw the episode that will air and needless to say it was very emotional, Herold’s being the most difficult for everyone to watch.

During his segment, they show images and talk about what happened in Haiti….images we have all seen, information we already know, something I think we all sympathize, yet don't really spend time reflecting on. But, as THESE images played during his segment at the premiere, Herold closed his eyes, put down his head, placed his hands over his ears, while tears streamed down his face – unable to bare the devastation of seeing or hearing what happened to his home. For everyone at that party, in that room, (for me, personally, having gotten to know his joyful spirit), this was a definite heart-wrencher and eye-opener.

When you watch tonight, I hope that not just Herold, or Jordan – but each of these 4 amazing teens touches you, as well…and you are able to reflect on the wonderful ways that, we, at NAM are inspiring others, in our own way.

Also, YOU DO NOT WANT TO MISS the show tonight. Jordan’s segment is the first one, so its at the VERY BEGINNING and NAM is EVERYWHERE! (oh and if you look close – you might even see yours truly). Jordan depicts a TRUE NAM girl in the segment and I know you will all be so proud!

Now for my interesting tidbid! After they played the premiere and Nick Cannon did his whole presentation, the audience stood in ovation, tears in eyes, touched and inspired by these 4 teens. But before Jordan could get off the stage, a girl who was invited to the premiere as a guest because of her involvement with a philanthropic organization called Journey for Change, RAN up to Jordan and said,”OMG! I did National American Miss, too!!!!!!”

........SMALL WORLD! NAM girls really are everywhere and they really do ROCK!

Don’t forget to watch TEEN NICK tonight at 7pm Central Time, with an encore on Nick at Nite at 8 pm Central Time.

NAM girls really are everywhere! Jordan and I were so excited to share this awesome night with another NAM girl!!!

Of course, Jordan most enjoyed the networking with Nickelodeon Starlets and network executives. Here, she and Honoree Herold discuss plans to meet up later for dinner with the star of Nickelodeon's hot new show, House of Anubis, premiering in January. She also got to meet Miranda Cosgrove and other stars from iCarly.

I even got to catch up with Nick Cannon. We met years ago at a pageant, of all places.

All the Halo Honorees, along with their guests - those that have supported their work. Such a humbling experience to be in the company of these leaders and heros! What a week!
