Josie Rawlings named President of Assisteens League

Your Miss Missouri Junior Teen, Josie Rawlings, was all smiles after being installed as the President of the Assisteens League! Josie has been actively involved with this organization for five years, going from Vice President to President of the Kansas City Chapter. With the opportunities of ALKC she has been able to promote the importance of volunteerism in today's youth, and has logged hundreds of hours of volunteer service.

Assisteens membership is open to young women and men in grades 7 to 12. The goals of participation are to develop a sense of community responsibility, self-reliance, personal responsibility, public speaking and leadership skills. Assisteens raise money to fund ongoing philanthropic programs to benefit the community.  Each Assisteens Auxiliary may choose their own programs and assist the chapter with their programs and fundraisers.  Some examples of current programs include teen mentoring, meals for homeless shelters, hygiene kits, backpacks for foster children, visits to senior centers and reading programs.

To get involved with the Assisteens Auxiliary in your community and for membership opportunities you can fill out a membership application, or learn more by clicking here.

Calling All Volunteers! Uniquely You Pageant Needs Your Help!

I am always SO impressed with our National American Miss State Finalists and enjoy watching them grow throughout their experience with us. One of these young ladies is Wisconsin's own Hailey Herbst. As a Miss Wisconsin State Finalist for the last four years, Hailey has carried her love for pageantry into creating the Uniquely You Pageant for individuals with special needs. Hailey is now looking for volunteers who can help with this year's Uniquely You Pageant. The event will take place July 22nd in Oshkosh, WI. If you are in, or can travel to the area, why not volunteer your time for such a great cause!

Hailey qualified and competed at the NAM National Pageant in 2015, and it was during her time in California that she was inspired to make a difference through her passions. The creation of Uniquely You was truly a blend of her two passions, pageantry and helping those with special needs.  With a brother and step-brother with special needs she saw first hand how encouraging those with special needs can make the otherwise impossible, possible. After a lot of work by many volunteers, the first Uniquely You Pageant was held on August 6, 2016 in Fond du Lac, WI.

Uniquely You was purposely designed with the intent of helping others. There is no entry fee for contestants and 100% of proceeds from admissions and other fundraising efforts are donated to Organizations in WI that specialize in helping individuals with special needs. Uniquely You’s mission is simple, “Encourage others to disbelieve in disabilities, embrace their uniqueness, and emphasize their abilities.”
