Miss Nebraska Pre Teen, Naomi's Farewell
My year as queen has been a year I will never forget! I will always remember all my new friends, all the fun I had volunteering, and all the parades and appearances with my sister queens!
Something I loved this year was volunteering with the Miss Amazing girls, escorting them around the Omaha Zoo, and helping at their pageant. They were all so excited to be there and hang out with my sister queens and I. At the zoo, it was so hot, but that didn’t slow us down! We saw everything! Then, my “buddy” for the day at the pageant was Christina. We still keep in touch!
Another place where I have loved volunteering is The Hope Center for Kids, an inner-city after school program in Omaha. I go there to read and help the elementary students with homework, and if they don’t have homework, just hang out and play games with them. I will continue to go to Hope even after my reign! I love that place!
My sister queens and I rode in three parades over the summer in our state. That was fun and a brand new experience for me! We also visited other state pageants to help out as visiting royalty. I attended the Missouri pageant, where I met Stevie Bisch when she won the pre-teen title. I was so glad that I would know someone at nationals, and Stevie became a great friend!
Yes…nationals! When we arrived in Hollywood, California, it was a huge change for me! I came from 12 degree weather to 65 degrees in only a few hours! I loved the entire experience at nationals. I met so many friends! I also loved nationals because my whole family went along for the ride including my uncle and grandparents! Our week started with Disneyland, a Hollywood tour, and rehearsals. Then, I competed in top model, photogenic, and casual wear optionals. I ended up getting 1st Runner Up for Top Model, a competition I had never done before! For casual wear, I wore a Nebraska themed outfit in my favorite color: sparkle! At the final pageant, many of my California relatives came to support me. I felt so special. My family and I had an AWESOME experience at nationals.
This year has been so busy and has gone by too fast! To my sister queens, Amanda, Megan, Emma, and Brookelyn, thank you for being the most amazing girls I have ever known! (Brookelyn took “sister queen” to mean being a real sister. Brookelyn, we will always be sisters, even after our reign!) Alssya and Caitlyn, Nebraska Cover Girls and awesome friends, don’t ever change! You are amazing just the way you are! Thanks to my whole NAMily for supporting me and making me feel like I have a second family!
Robin and Emerie, you are also like a second family to me. Thanks for EVERYTHING!
Lastly, I want to thank my family: The Joneses, Longbrakes, and Turners, my uncle Marc for being my “personal photographer”, my brothers who had to be around all things girly for the past year (and for sticking it out without complaining!), and my grandparents who wanted to be at every appearance I had. And last, to my mom and dad: thank you for everything you have done! I can’t even find the words to say how much I appreciate you being there!
To my successor, you will have the most amazing year in your life! Take lots of pictures and live in the moment! Be humble and gracious. I’m excited for you already!
I am your 2013-2014 Miss Nebraska Pre-teen Queen,
Naomi Janae Turner
